  • Gemeria prefers steam-perming which keeps the hair healthy yet styled as per requirement.

Authentic Virgin Hair

1. How do I choose the best authentic virgin hair?
  • It is important that you find yourself a company that only sells authentic Remy Virgin Hair. You can judge the authenticity by the product pricing, for instance, if the virgin hair sold costs lesser than $100 for a 20″ long piece, that hair bundle will actually be Non-Remy false virgin hair.
  • Don’t purchase hair or settle down for hair that they sell in the salon either. If you’re walking into an offline store consult the customer representative for further information like the origin, how the hair is processed, maintenance of the hair, and more. If you’re buying online make sure you ask the same questions before purchasing.
3. Are all authentic virgin hair extension pieces different?

No two woman would be identical to each other yet their characteristics or hair consistency can be of the same origin or texture. Similarly, no one Virgin Hair Extension bundle is similar to the other. They are all unique in their own way.

2. Why is my authentic hair dull instead of shiny or silky?

Remy Virgin Hair is the purest quality of human hair. It is authentic instead of being chemically processed and thus in its natural state contains normal hair consistency. You can use conditioners and hair moisturizers to create a silky texture.

4. How to check whether my Virgin Hair Extensions are authentic or not?
  • There are multiple ways of checking whether your purchased Virgin Hair is authentic or not, for instance,
  • Authentic Virgin Hair will have cuticles that you can feel if you hold the hair near the top with your index and thumb finger and run it down the entire length. The hair on the way down would be smooth but if you reverse the direction, you are bound to feel ridges on your way up- those are cuticles.
  • Much like natural hair, your virgin Hair Extension too will have split ends. If it doesn’t, chances are that it has been acid-washed or the cuticles have been stripped off.
  • If you’re purchasing Indian Virgin Remy hair, the tips or ends of the hair would be lighter in shade as compared to the hair roots. This is primarily because many women in India work outside and the sun is often quite strong. Hair from China or Southeast Asia would have the same color throughout.
  • If the hair consistency is shiny, then the virgin hair is silicone coated. Remy Hair would usually appear much like your normal hair- dull and natural.
  • The authentic virgin hair does not undergo chemical residue and therefore won’t smell like corn chips.

Other/Fake Virgin Hair

1. What is fake virgin hair?

Fake Virgin Hair is usually sold by international suppliers who disguise Non-Remy hair as Virgin Remy Hair but in reality, the extensions are acid-washed and blended in with synthetic hair. This is cheaper in price owing to its low quality and contains many short hairs that add bulk near the roots.

3. What is the difference between beauty supply store extensions and fake virgin extensions you can buy online or from other retailers?

Foreign low-grade online stores, knock-off retailers, and beauty supply chains- all sell the same hair. But the primary difference lies in how they process the hair before making it available to the end users.

Most of the beauty supply stores use Non-Remy hair that has been bleached by acid, dyed, and bathed in silicone. However, the key difference is- “Fake Virgin” Hair is simply acid-washed and silicone-coated without any bleaching or drying.

5. Why does my fake virgin hair smell like corn chips?

Fake Virgin Hair is usually washed with cheap acid and bathed in cheap silicone- which mixed together causes the smell of corn chips.

7. Why is there a red string in my fake virgin hair?

Indian collectors of Non-Remy hair add strings as fillers to add to the weight of the hair and they get away with cheating the customers since quality assurance process of Non-Remy hair is minimal.

9. Why are my hair extensions light brown or multi-colored?
  • Remy Virgin Hair authentically sourced from India will always have lighter tips or ends with darker roots whereas authentic Remy Human hair from Southeast Asia will almost be the same in color and yet it won’t be completely uniform.
  • The fake Virgin extensions are often light brown in hue since it’s acid-washed. Acid evaporates the natural pigments.
  • If your fake Remy hair is multi-coloured, chances are that your hair has a mix of synthetic or animal hairs in it.
2. If fake virgin hair can be dyed and washed, why should I buy authentic virgin hair?

Fake Virgin Hair is often acid-washed and silicone coated which damages the hair completely. The acid reduces the hair thickness and it becomes prone to shedding while the silicone creates the illusion of healthy by making the damaged hair appear silky.

Authentic Virgin Remy hair is just like your natural hair where you can wash it to reduce excess oils, product build-ups, and more without damaging the original quality of the product

4. Why are beauty supply store extensions and fake virgin extensions so smooth and silky when I first buy them?

The silkiness in a beauty supply store extension or a fake virgin extension is because of the silicone coating. The silicone- coating makes the hair look smooth when you’re buying it and you can probably feel a greasy residue left behind on your fingers. However, once you buy and wash the wig, the silicone is stripped off, revealing the dry tangled hair underneath.

6. Why did my fake virgin hair begin to melt when I tried to bleach it?

If your fake Virgin hair contains synthetic hair fillers, there is a high risk your extensions may melt if you try to bleach it. Synthetic fillers, which are cheaper than human hair can also be damaged by heat.

8. Why is there synthetic hair in my fake virgin extensions?

Synthetic hair is often mixed with Non-Remy hair to reduce the extension prices.

10. Why can I buy virgin hair for $50 per bundle from international trade websites?
  • Chinese or International manufacturers often sell fake virgin or Indian Non-Remy hair and the lack of proper regulations in their regions allow them the benefit of putting misleading labels to it.
  • These extensions are often cheap since they use cheap quality hair and mix them with low-quality chemical processing, synthetic fillers, short hair and more.
  • Often, these companies also have a no-replacement policy on the cheap products sold.

Remy and Non-Remy Human Hair

1. What is Remy versus Non-Remy human hair?
  • Remy Hair is the best quality of chemically unprocessed human hair that has its cuticles still intact. The hair is also aligned with the growth direction of natural hair which allows easy blending and fewer tangles.
  • Non-Remy Hair, on the other hand, is often chemically processed with the cuticles flowing in the opposite direction which increases tangling risks. 98% of extensions are made of Non-Remy Hair.
3. What is the source of Remy human hair?
  • Out of all the extensions that we see in the market, only 2% of them are authentic Remy human hair. Women in India, especially the south shaves their heads as a sign of devotion and the temple barbers who assist the women in shaving usually tie the hair in a knot to keep the strands flowing in the same direction. This is a major difference that sets Remy and Non-Remy hair apart. The Remy Hair is completely unprocessed and kept in its intact form.
  • The manufacturers on receiving the Remy hair, wash and condition it after sorting out the greys and impurities. Only 50% of the hair collected from the temples are used to make the extensions.
  • The rejected hairs are exported as Non-Remy hair to China.
  • Unprocessed Remy human hair is way more expensive than Non-Remy extensions from Brazil or China.
5. What is virgin Remy hair?

Virgin Remy hair is 100% unprocessed hair, usually collected from a single donor. This is one of the highest quality of human hair that is chemically unprocessed to retain its authenticity as the purest human form of the human hair.

2. What is the source of Non-Remy human hair?
  • Non-Remy Hair is sourced from India most of the time.
  • Brushing your hair often leaves residual broken hair on your brushes. Same is the case with Indian women, who usually have long hair. The fallen hair is often collected and sold to local collectors who then passes it on to the manufacturers.
  • These hairs are never discriminated. Every strand of hair regardless of greying, drying, dirt, oil, and even caked lice is used in the making of Non-Remy Hair.
4. What is Southeast Asian Remy human hair?

Remy Human Hair can also be sourced from Southeast Asian countries. These hairs are privately sourced from villages across the region.

Gemeria Virgin Indian Hair Extensions

1. Why is the SEA Collection priced lower than the PURE/BOUNCE Collection?

The SEA Collection is hair from Southeast Asia, where production costs are lower than in India. This hair is less expensive to source.

3. Why is Gemeria virgin hair darker at the roots than the ends?
  • Darker roots and lighter tips are the signs of originality since this is a natural hair characteristic common in Indian hair. This is primarily because of sun exposure where the new hair on top is darker and the tips get bleached over time creating a perfect ombre look.
  • Gemeria uses nothing but authentic Virgin Indian Remy and Temple Hair in the production of our extensions.
5. Is Gemeria steam-permed or chemical-permed?

Dying, bleaching, or chemically processing the hair will only lead to damage. At Gemeria, we believe authentic hair should be treated accordingly and thus, we strictly use steam-permed hair and natural sunlight drying techniques on our hair.

7. What are Gemeria recommended products for authentic virgin hair?
  • Gemeria’s expert stylists recommend using sulfate-free shampoo and deep conditioners to wash the hair. Sulfate-free leave-in conditioners work too.
  • To keep the hair moisturized you can add argan oil but stay away from cosmetic hair oils or serum to avoid reactions. Also, don’t forget to wash out the oil in due time to prevent overstay or build-up.
9. Where are hair extensions manufactured?

The vast majority of extensions sold in beauty supply stores and online are manufactured in China. A few extensions are manufactured in India, Brazil, and Europe.

11. What is a lace closure versus a silk-based closure, and how do I know if I’ve purchased a quality closure?
  • Lace closures have a layer of lace attached to the base which is usually made from swiss less and has a fine mesh. A thicker mesh means a cheaper lace.
  • Silk closures have three distinct layers- the silk, the lace, and another layer of silk.
  • A quality closure will have these following characteristics-
  • finer, thinner lace/mesh/silk instead of a thick one
  • Hair density/ thickness will be prominent (100% density is preferred)
  • Check the hair quality- always opt for Remy Virgin Indian hair only
  • Closures with baby hairs or bleached knots to conceal the natural hairline are usually high-quality in nature
  • The edges should be reinforced to avoid tearing
13. Why are extensions tapered, and how many pieces do I need for a full sew-in?
  • Long hair is never all the same length. At Gemeria, we receive our virgin Remy hair in ponytails. After washing the hair, we remove any hair shorter than 8 inches before creating our extensions. This gives the finished pieces a natural taper. If you purchase 18-inch hair, you’ll typically need two pieces for a full sew-in. You’ll need more than two pieces if your extensions are over 22 inches long.
  • Chinese manufacturers create fake virgin hair with Non-Remy hair. They blend different hair lengths together to mimic the tapered shape of natural hair. They use many short hairs, and all the thickness is concentrated at the top. These fake virgin extensions are very thin at the ends and require 4-6 pieces for a full sew-in.
15. If I purchase multiple pieces from Gemeria, will there be quality issues because of the bulk order?

Gemeria works hard to maintain the superior quality of the products we deliver. Hair, in our warehouse, is often processed at one go and it does not matter where you order an individual product or in bulk- the product quality remains consistent throughout.

2. Why does Gemeria hair have split ends?

Split ends are a common characteristic of Indian hair. In order to maintain the authenticity of our virgin Indian Remy hair, we refrain from making too many modifications. The split ends are a sign that the Hair is original and not processed!

4. Why did my hair extensions turn green when I dyed/bleached them?

Indian women use a lot of henna to dye their hair. If you bleach fake Remy extensions, the peroxide in the bleach would react with the henna and turn the hair green. This can, however, happen to original Remy hair too and that’s why henna-dyed hair is very rarely accepted for Remy Extensions.

6. Do tighter steam-permed curls require more maintenance?

The tighter-permed hair is usually Remy human hair being forced into holding the tightness of the curl which means maintenance to retain the texture and shape of the curls would naturally be high. This is especially important for humid regions where the heat and humidity make the hair expand with moisture.

8. What is the difference between Indian hair and virgin hair?

Indian hair can be either virgin Remy human hair or Non-Remy hair. The national origin of the hair does not determine if it’s virgin or not.

10. Why are there grey hairs in my hair extensions?

Many of the Indian women who shave their heads have grey hairs. Hair that is mostly grey will be rejected during processing. However, hair with a few grey strands will be made into Remy extensions. Grey hairs tend to be more prevalent in Non-Remy fake virgin extensions. Since all the hairs collected from individual women are mixed together, hair is not separated by color. If the hair is acid-washed and silicone-coated but not dyed, the grey hairs will remain prominent.

12. Why can I buy a lace closure for $50 while Gemeria sells lace closures for $200?

Gemeria sells a high-quality lace closure. Cheap closures are typically made with:

  • Non-Remy hair
  • Chinese lace
  • No baby hairs
  • No bleached knots
  • A size of 3”x3” or at the most 4”x4”
  • 85% density or less
14. Why can I find virgin hair for $50 whereas Gemeria sells virgin hair for more than $150?
  • Chinese or International manufacturers often sell fake virgin or Indian Non-Remy hair and the lack of proper regulations in their regions allow them the benefit of putting misleading labels to it.
  • These extensions are often cheap since they use cheap quality hair and mix them with low-quality chemical processing, synthetic fillers, short hair and more.
  • Often, these companies also have a no-replacement policy on the cheap products sold.
